By Car

Helston Railway is easily reached by road and is just a few minutes from the town of Helston.

  • From Helston, follow the A394 towards Penzance.
  • Turn towards Prospidnick and follow signs for Helston Railway.
  • Free visitor parking is available on site.

Cornwall’s popular destinations such as Porthleven, The Lizard Peninsula, and Falmouth are all within easy driving distance, making the railway a great addition to a day out in the area.

By Public Transport

The nearest town with regular bus services is Helston.

From Helston you can take a short taxi journey to the railway or combine your visit with a walk or cycle ride through the surrounding countryside.

Visitors travelling by train can connect via:

  • Redruth station (mainline services)
  • Camborne station

Both stations are approximately 25–30 minutes by car from Helston Railway.

Helston Railway operates on selected running days throughout the year from Easter to Halloween, typically including:

  • Thursdays and Sundays
  • Bank Holidays
  • Wednesdays in July and August
  • Special Event Days

Refreshments are available on running days at Helston Railway from Cornish Carriages – Buffet & Restaurant Cars at Prospidnick station.

Is parking available?

Yes. Free visitor parking is available at Prospidnick.

Can I bring my dog?

Well-behaved dogs are welcome at Helston Railway, but they must be kept on a lead at all times.
Please check individual event pages as some special events may have different arrangements.

Do I need to book tickets in advance?

For normal running days, tickets can usually be purchased on arrival but they are also available to book online. For special events or busy days, advance booking is recommended.

Is the railway suitable for children?

Yes. Helston Railway is a family-friendly attraction, and children enjoy travelling on the historic trains and meeting our volunteers.

How long should I allow for a visit?

Most visits last 1–2 hours, depending on whether you stay for refreshments or multiple train rides.

Is the site accessible?

Some areas of the railway are accessible, but as a heritage site there may be uneven surfaces.
