Return the Lowertown Viaduct to running order
Support the restoration of one of Helston Railway’s most remarkable structures and help bring trains back across the valley.
The Lowertown Viaduct is one of the most striking features of the Helston Railway. Built in granite and sweeping across the valley on six arches, it is both an impressive piece of Victorian engineering and an important part of the railway’s story.
Now we have the opportunity to acquire and refurbish the viaduct, with the long-term aim of seeing trains run over it once again.
Help bring this sleeping beauty back to life
This appeal is about more than repairing a structure. It is about protecting a major piece of local railway heritage, giving supporters a chance to be part of something lasting, and helping move Helston Railway closer to the dream of running trains across the viaduct once again.

Lowertown Viaduct
In 1887 the Helston Railway opened its branch line into the town connecting to the main line at Gwinear Road. One of the outstanding features on the line was the Lowertown Viaduct crossing the River Cover.
At 313 feet in length and 120 feet high, this magnificent structure describes a graceful curve as it strides on six arches over the valley. Built with granite from a quarry nearby, the viaduct is a testament to Victorian engineering and style.
It served the railway impeccably until the line was closed in 1964. Since then, this masterpiece has become a real sleeping beauty, gently slumbering and largely hidden, with its memories of passing trains like a dream.
Now though, Helston Railway Company is alive and well and looking to make a dream come true and bring a touch of magic back to Helston.
